Awarded annually by the Dean of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs to graduate students in demonstrated financial need who are registered in the thesis portion of a doctoral program in a humanities discipline and require financial assistance in the final stages of their program. Should there be no suitable doctoral candidates, the bursary may be awarded to students registered in a thesis-based Master’s program in the same disciplines. Eligible recipients must be Canadian Citizens or permanent residents of Canada, and must meet OSAP’s Ontario Residency requirements. Recipients will be chosen by the awards committee of the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs from a list of candidates recommended by each department. Endowed in 1997 in honour of Sydney F.
