Alizeh Jaffrey was a 2022 MPNL graduate and a member of the Nu Lambda Mu International Honors Society for Nonprofit Management, Philanthropy, and Social Entrepreneurship. She was also a Donor Engagement Officer at Food Banks Mississauga.

On May 5, 2026, Alizeh passed away suddenly, leaving behind her one-year old daughter, husband, mother, father, and many beloved family members, as well as a strong legacy in the philanthropic sector especially in her advocation and work for those marginalized by food and financial insecurity.

Alizeh established the “Benevolence Award for MPNL” in honour of Hasan ibn Ali, a seventh-century philanthropist and spiritual leader known for his grantmaking and teachings about philanthropy. Alizeh’s work and influence in the philanthropic sector was inspired by his teachings and example, and deeply rooted in her faith.

The “Benevolence Award for MPNL” is awarded annually by Carleton University’s Dean of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs, on the recommendation of the Graduate Supervisor of the MPNL program, to students entering the program. Eligible recipients will be selected based on academic promise, past academic achievement and/or professional experience. Preference is for students in financial need.

Established in 2022 by Alizeh Jaffrey in honour of Hasan ibn Ali, a 7th Century philanthropist and spiritual leader known for his grantmaking and his work towards food security. He also taught the tenets of philanthropy, including concepts such as effective societal resource allocation. Alizeh’s work in the philanthropic sector was inspired by Hasan’s teachings and example.
