Established in memory of the late Donna Hobin, this fund will honour her lifelong commitment to basketball by supporting upcoming generations of women basketball players. As a graduate of the Nepean High School and Ottawa Rookies basketball programs, Donna’s dedication to the game was the impetus for her making Canada’s first official women’s basketball team at the 1976 Olympics at the age of 18.
Her determination led her to compete both nationally and around the world, where she was respected by her coaches, teammates and opponents. In 2024, Donna attended the Paris Summer Olympics as a supporter of the Canadian national women’s team—almost five decades after her Olympic debut. As the first Ottawa woman to be named an Olympian for basketball, your contribution will help inspire varsity athletes to fulfill their aspirations both on and off the court.
The Donna Hobin Memorial Fund in Honour of Women’s Basketball will support the immediate and emerging needs of Carleton Ravens Women’s varsity basketball players in their pursuit of excellence. Endowed in 2025 by family and friends in memory of Donna Hobin and her many accomplishments, including serving as a member of Canada’s first official women’s basketball team to compete in the Olympic Games.
