Overview
The Wellness Fund helps create and maintain more inclusive programming and peer-to-peer services for the Carleton community to increase student engagement, awareness, and participation in our wide spectrum of mental health and wellness services. It allows Carleton to implement practical methods to strive for equity, diversity and inclusion on campus, and empower our students, faculty, staff and community to thrive on campus and beyond through personal wellness and mental health initiatives and resources.
The Background
More specifically, the Wellness Fund helps to support hiring part-time paid positions with the Health Promotion Team. Carleton’s Health Promotion Team is overseen by our Health Promotion Coordinator and includes a dedicated team of student staff, known as Student Wellness Ambassadors. Student Wellness Ambassadors are current students at Carleton University and support with Health Promotion programming as well as support with raising awareness about available mental health and wellness supports to students. Our student staff work together to provide peer-to-peer support in various areas around campus.
The Rollout
With the support of Future Funder, our goal is to raise $3000 towards financially supporting our Student Wellness Ambassadors. This will not only support with funding part-time student positions, but also provide student staff the opportunity to participate in available trainings, host wellness events across campus, and allow student staff to grow their personal and professional skills.
The Impact
Working directly with Student Wellness Ambassadors creates the opportunity to involve students in the development of programs and services. Student Wellness Ambassadors collaborate with faculty, staff, and other students to share ways that members of the community can maintain their overall health and wellness throughout their academic experience and beyond. The feedback received from the Student Wellness Ambassadors ensures that the Wellness Fund is directly addressing the needs of our students.
