Overview
Having research accepted for a conference is an important achievement, however, travel and accommodation costs can make it difficult for students to attend and be part of these meaningful experiential learning opportunities. The Centre for Studies on Poverty and Social Citizenship (CSPSC) invites you to support Carleton Social Work students as they bring their research to academic and professional conferences. Conference participation gives students the chance to share their findings, receive feedback, and connect with researchers and practitioners.
The Background
Your support helps reduce financial barriers so more students can contribute to conversations about poverty, inequality, social policy, and social work practice. Together, we can help students share research that informs how we understand and respond to challenges in our communities.
The Rollout
The Impact
For PhD student Alyssa Schenk, CSPSC funding made it possible to attend the 2026 Canadian Association of Social Work Education conference and present her research on Filipino Indigenous approaches to social work. Travelling from British Columbia, she shared her work with a broader audience and connected with others working toward more socially just approaches to care.
For MSW student Emily Paquette-Leahy, CSPSC support helped her present at the 2026 European Conference for Social Work Research in Aberdeen, Scotland. Her research examined universal basic income proposals in Canada through the lens of social work ethics and values. The funding allowed her to share her work internationally, receive valuable feedback, and gain new perspectives on social policy and practice.
With your support, more students can build confidence as presenters, strengthen their research, and develop professional connections. They can carry these experiences into future studies, social work practice, and community work.
Give to the CSPSC Student Conference Support Fund and help students take their research beyond the classroom.
