Overview
Carleton Planetary Robotics Team, or dearly known as CPRT, is Carleton University’s leading robotics design team. We are a group of undergraduate students dedicated to designing and building Mars rovers. Through our work, we aim to empower a diverse community with the tools, skills, and vision to drive innovation and inspire the next generation of STEM leaders.
The Background
Students from the Faculty of Engineering and Design make up most of our 200+ student member base. Our members join us to be able to bring their classroom knowledge and previous experience to build the best Mars rover possible that will compete in international competitions.
We attend two competitions per year:
- University Rover Challenge (URC) at the Mars Dessert Research Station in Utah, USA
- Canadian University Rover Challenge (CIRC) in Drumheller, Canada
The Rollout
Your contributions will help subsidize costs of taking our finished design and taking it into the world stage to compete and further provide a critical aspect of design, real world testing and validation.
And although we receive immense support from Carleton’s Faculty of Engineering and Design for rover development, our competition expenses for the Summer of 2025 included:
- Flights
- Short-term rentals
- Car rentals
- Replacement parts, tools and equipment
All which totaled $29,500 for 33 students.
Our goal is to fundraise to be able to decrease the cost for a student to represent our team and help us deliver on our mission of excellence through experiential learning!
