On February 11, 2019, Carleton announced that we have officially surpassed the $300 million goal of our Collaborate Campaign! The campaign continues and will officially close at a community celebration on April 17, 2019.

In an effort to show our gratitude and to commemorate the outcomes we achieved together through Collaborate, we’ve launched a nine-week digital initiative called Thank You Thursday. Each Thursday, we will share the positive impact realized through the campaign in various priority areas thanks to the generosity of our donors. WEEK 3

For many years, research, development, and innovation have been critical to Carleton’s long-term goals. We strive to develop collaborative relationships with private, public, and not-for-profit partners; position ourselves as leaders in applied and fundamental research; and maximize the positive impact of our research through knowledge mobilization. Our donors recognize our aptitudes and objectives in the realm of research and have supported our efforts to continually innovate during Collaborate. For example:

  • We further developed our expertise and research capacity in the area of the internet of things—a growing field with global significance in today’s digital era—by creating the Cisco Research Chair in Sensor Technology. The Chair was established with a generous donation from Cisco;
  • We increased our capacity to lead international research efforts within Carleton’s Global Water Institute by creating the Jarislowsky Chair for Water and Global Health. The creation of the Chair was made possible by a gift from the Jarislowsky Foundation;
  • In partnership with Fulbright Canada, we created four Fulbright Distinguished Visiting Research Chairs in the areas of entrepreneurship, environmental science, public affairs in North America, and arts and social sciences in North America. The Fulbright Chairs program supports the exchange of international scholars with the goal of promoting research excellence, education, and knowledge sharing;
  • In an effort to improve environmental sustainability and enhance the economy through GDP growth, job creation, and knowledge mobilization, we launched Efficiency Canada, an initiative of the Sustainable Energy Research Centre at Carleton. The establishment of Efficiency Canada was enabled by financial support provided by a number of foundations and partners;
  • We were able to expand our contributions to the field of energy efficiency and environmental sustainability by conducting research and teaching projects on high-performance home design and net-zero tiny houses, such as the Northern Nomad tiny house, which was supported by a donation from the Borealis Foundation as well as crowdfunding efforts;
  • To increase our collective capacity for peaceful interpersonal interactions, we pursued research in the areas of peace and security, conflict resolution, and human development, thanks to the establishment of the Kanta Marwah Research Grant in Peace and Security;
  • We cultivated an entrepreneurial, discovery-driven spirit in our engineering students by establishing the Entrepreneurship Award in Electrical Engineering. The award, which was established with a gift from the Chudobiak family, aims to encourage and inspire students to pursue new and innovative ideas, concepts, and ventures.
