Overview

The VR Longhouse project is a collaboration between the Office of the AVP-Indigenous Teaching, Learning, and Research and Teaching and Learning Services. The VR Longhouse project was recorded in the Ganondagan State Historic Site with local actors who recreated events from a traditional Longhouse. The recording will be utilized to create a VR recording for Carleton University students and staff to participate in an immersive and accurate depiction of the Longhouse.

The Background

The VR Longhouse project was envisioned to provide a unique and accurate learning experience for the Carleton University community. Much can be gained through information and knowledge concerning local Indigenous peoples. The VR Longhouse project connects Indigenous communities to Carleton University. Through the establishment of projects such as these, allows for local Indigenous communities to share their knowledges in a way that is purposeful and respectful. This project is Indigenous-led and locally supported as it provides insight into the histories through an Indigenous lens.

The Rollout

These funds will provide compensation to the actors for their time and their travel. In addition, it will provide the necessary recording costs to building this project.

The Impact

The VR Longhouse recording will be available for use for the Carleton University community.
