Overview
The landscape of higher education is ever-changing, and as student needs evolve, so must our ability to respond with agility and effectiveness. The Carleton Academic Student Government (CASG) is an organization that has operated on campus at Carleton University since 1969. CASG was created out of a desire for student’s input in the curriculum. Our objective is to function as an intermediary between students, faculty and administration, allowing students to collaboratively influence the University’s administration and governance on academic matters.
To sustain and enhance our operations, we are launching the CASG Development & Resilience Fund This fund will provide essential resources necessary for ongoing projects, initiatives, and advocacy efforts that directly benefit our student body. Increasing budget constraints and growing demands on our services require robust funding to maintain our initiatives, namely $7,000 towards funding events for academic clubs and societies, and $16,000 delivered in scholarships to recognize student excellence.
By contributing to the CASG Development & Resilience Fund, you are directly impacting the student experience and ensuring that Carleton remains a hub of innovation, inclusion, and academic excellence. By providing the necessary resources, we can cultivate an engaged, informed, and resilient student body capable of tackling the challenges of today and tomorrow. Your support will not only impact current students but also shape future graduates who will carry the values of critical thinking, advocacy, representation, and community engagement into their professional lives. Together, we can foster a culture where every student feels valued and empowered to make a difference.
The Background
The Carleton Academic Student Government (CASG) is an organization that has operated on campus at Carleton University since 1969. CASG was created out of a desire for student’s input in the curriculum. Furthermore, without an effective vessel to work with and within the University’s administration, Carleton’s Administration felt that students could grow frustrated with the system and choose to fight the administration rather than work with it.
Our objective is to function as an intermediary between students, faculty and administration, allowing students to influence the University’s administration and governance on academic matters. Additionally, CASG is recognized as: (1) the student wing of the administration that runs under the Senate of Carleton; (2) a non‐political organization that takes positions only on academic issues involving undergraduate students; and (3) a separate organization from the Carleton University Students Association (CUSA).
The Rollout
CASG operates through an optional levy paid through undergraduate students’ fees. Every year, the students who opt to pay a small levy ($1.46/per academic year) directly help to keep CASG’s operations running. With additional philanthropic support through this campaign, CASG could continue to operate sustainably in perpetuity, and weather unforeseen changes in student enrolment and levy revenues.
