Overview
Over the past 8 years, the Ravens Men’s Rugby program has developed from a small co-ed university club of rugby playing engineers into a competitive team playing in the RSEQ against some of the best university rugby teams in the nation. As a student run program, we rely on players, alumni and fundraising to help cover the cost of the various expenses that are required to maintain a competitive rugby team. Competition is fierce in the RSEQ, which means that as a young program, we have a lot of catching up to do.
Your support will help ensure the continued growth of our program and contribute to the success of our athletes for years to come.
The Background
Since its revival in 2016, Carleton Men’s Rugby has fought to establish itself as a competitive program. In 2022, we were admitted into the RSEQ varsity league, but we have faced challenges competing against more established teams with greater resources. Our team is currently run on player dues and fundraising, with minimal financial support from the university, and it’s unlikely this will change given that men’s rugby is not a U Sports-recognized sport.
However, we see enormous potential in this program. With greater investment, we could become a regional hub where local athletes can hone their skills, contributing to the development of rugby in our community. To reach this goal, we need to evolve from a three-month program to an eight-month program—allowing our athletes to train and compete year-round, just like our rivals
The Impact
Our athletes, many of whom come from local high schools and rugby clubs, are ready to rise to the challenge. However, we need your support to make this vision a reality. Any contribution, no matter the size, will have a direct impact on the program and help us grow into a fully competitive team. Our athletes are active in the community as players, refs, administrators and coaches – investing in them is investing in the local and regional rugby community. Strengthening Carleton Men’s rugby will strengthen our local rugby.
