Overview
The Institute of Political Economy at Carleton University is the only graduate program of its kind in Canada. Since its founding in 1989, the Institute has developed an international reputation as one of the top destinations in North America for studies in political economy. The interdisciplinary nature of the Institute of Political Economy attracts students from diverse undergraduate backgrounds and provides them with the training and freedom to define their own research projects and work under the supervision of recognized experts.
The Background
This campaign aims to enhance the student experience at the Institute of Political Economy by funding a range of initiatives to enable graduate students to receive a world-class education, whilst undertaking their graduate degree at the Institute. Funds raised will ensure that the Institute is able to continue to provide an excellent student experience through funding visiting professorships, and graduate student conferences in the Institute of Political Economy. This can encompass the funding of graduate student conferences, visiting professors, graduate student travel, and food and non-alcoholic beverages for graduate student events.
The Impact
Alumni of the the Institute of Political Economy have made significant contributions in a number of communities. Their research projects have helped to influence positive change in the private and public sectors. Many graduates of the Institute work in academia or are pursuing doctoral degrees at Carleton or at other universities. A significant number of alumni work for federal or provincial governments, NGOs, trade unions, or the private sector following graduation. These funds will help prepare students to take on a leading role in this diverse range of sectors.
