Overview
This initiative is to provide sustained, long term support for Environmental Science undergraduate student field courses that allow engagement in field based activities to provide experiential learning, hands on training and techniques. Topics include biology, chemistry, earth science, geography related aspects of environmental sciences and will focus on quantitative techniques to assess environmental impacts and management Emphasis on real world problems associated with human activates and development of solution in natural environments. Hands on experience with environmental monitoring and restoration.
The Background
Field courses provide opportunities for application of theory into real practice. Experiential learning from these courses move beyond the classroom to the field where exploration can begin. Field courses are often the highlight of a four year undergraduate student’s program and may shape and enhance how they approach their future studies.
The Rollout
Funds generated from this endowment will be used to support field work related expense for undergraduate student, including but not limited travel and transportation to and from field site, lodging, food and field accommodations, field equipment and supplies, permits and fees associated with site access and data collection, documentation and sample preservation.
The Impact
Donors would be supporting the next generation of Environmental Science undergraduate students. Contributions to this fund ensures that all undergraduate students have equal opportunities to experience field work and hands on research without financial burden or logistical, travel and equipment related barriers to their experiential learning.
